The process of selecting small METRIC drive components for new prototypes or for production applications just became easier with the publication by Stock Drive Products and Sterling Instrument of a 1,240-page catalog, the "Handbook Of Metric Drive Components, Catalog 785".

A highlight of the catalog is a comprehensive 234-page Technical Reference Section which covers design theory, calculations and useful tables for designing spur gears, internal gears, helical gears, screw gears, bevel gears andworm gears. Additional subjects covered in detail include: one and two-step gear trains,
planetary gear systems, gear backlash, gear accuracy, gear forces, plus an extensive section on the strength and durability of gears.

The catalog itself includes over 31,942 off-the-shelf standardized metric, commercial and precision quality components which include over 4,000 new products.

   The catalog is divided into 15 product sections, each with its own photographic and descriptive index. Major product groups include: gears, belt and chain drives, shafts, shaft accessories, bearings, couplings, universal joints, vibration mounts, hardware, gearheads and speed reducers, right angle drives, brakes and clutches, motors and gearmotors, plus linear motion systems.

There are over 4,800 metric gears offered along with 16,700 metric belt drives plus chains and sprockets in 5 different materials. All components in the catalog adhere to the following parameters: Module 5 gears or finer, 25 mm shafts or smaller and 15 Watt devices or less. Every component is identified using a meaningful alpha-numeric coding system which is explained in the catalog. Included with the catalog is a handy printed sheet of peel-off section divider tab labels which can also be customized by the user.
